Exfoliation
Posted On 04-30-2008 , 10:16 AM
Since our skin is made of layers with the newest at the bottom and the dead layer on top, one of the most common ways to look younger is to remeove the dead skin cells so that the surface of our skin is a newer layer. This exfoliation results in firmer, softer skin, and prepares the skin for further nourishment. Don't do too much, however. Remember that the principle overriding every skin treatment is a healthy balance of what your skin naturally needs. You do not want to keep removing dead skin cells until you reveal the live skin. This skin is not ready for the outside world and you will damage your skin if you remove too much.

Get a Massage
Posted On 04-28-2008 , 10:18 AM
Usually when we talk about skin care we think of just the layers of skin cells themeselves. Don't forget your musclees. If you have body aches and pains, especially in your back, you owe it to your skin, yes your skin, to get a massage.
You see, when the muscles below your skin are stressed, they are ther stretched, too relaxed, or too constricted. The system that regulates the contraction and relaxation of muscle is a chemical system. This is why deep rubs and essential oils work so well. Since your skin covers your muscles and is supported by them, heahtly muscles will lead to healthy skin.
So get a massage. Remember that there are medical massages and spa massages, not necessarily the same thing. A mecial massage has a specific medical goal usually identified by a medical professional as a need related recovering from accident or illness. A spa massage, on the other hand, is mostly to relax you and make you feel pampered.
Simply choose which one you need. Skin needs attention and a massage might just be the ticket.

Get Ready for Summer
Posted On 04-25-2008 , 8:27 AM
May will begin just a few days from now. Depending on where you live, your summer will be starting soon or has already. Remember that Your skin needs sun.Usually we talk first about how you need to protect your skin from the sun, which is true, but we also need to remember that healthy skin care includes a certain amount of exposure to the sun.
For protecting your skin the usual recommendation is to use an SPF of over 15. Realize that there are higher SPFs available. If you or your child burn easily, use a higher SPF. Wear long sleeves, and limit the amount of time you spend in the sun.
You might be tempted to spend more time in the water, thinking water and moisture go together. For your skin, the moisture from water comes from within. Drink pleny of water, and use a light moisturizing lotion on your skin. Water on your skin will evaporate, taking with it some of the moisture from the cells. After swimming, add your moisturizer.
What summer tips do you have? Share them in comments.

Why Do I Blog About Skin?

Skin is the largest organ of the body; it covers your whole body—even under your hair. It’s difficult to say one part of the body is more important than others, certainly not more important than the heart or the brain. But think for a minute how the state of your skin affects you. An itch anywhere on your skin comes to your attention.

When meeting people, the skin of your face is a huge part of your first impression. When more skin than usual is visible, eyes are drawn to it. Men especially turn their heads when someone with beautiful skin happens by their view. More importantly still, is how you feel and the health you enjoy. Healthy skin comes from a healthy body.
Because of the influence of our skin, many many people look for ways to improve the appearance and smoothness of their skin. What are the best ways? If you search for the information on skin care you will find a pattern:
- Keep your skin clean without harming it.
- Keep your skin moisturized without making it oily.
- Eat a healthy diet so your skin has what it needs.
- Protect your skin from too much sun.
